Irish Adventurer | Outdoor Adventure Blogger | Irish Vlogger

See that bald ginger head above? That would be mine. I’m Derek and I am an Irish vlogger, Irish Adventurer, Outdoor adventure blogger (and every other silly label) from Ireland, travelling the world and working online.

In a nutshell, I began this Outdoor Adventure Blog with an Africa bicycle tour in late 2013 and now I get paid to write about outdoor adventure travel. You can also find out more about my story at the bottom of this page.

Outdoor Adventure Blogger Categories

For this reason this outdoor adventure blog is split into different categories which cover many aspects of what I do for a living. From cycling across Africa and hiking the East Coast Trail in Newfoundland to creating my online business and following my journey as an Irish Vlogger overseas.

Daily Vlog

My main focus at the moment is outlining my journey and behind the scenes footage of my journey as an Irish Vlogger. As you might imagine, this daily vlog is uploaded to Facebook and YouTube every single day.

Africa Cycle Tour BlogIt is here you will also find the Africa cycle tour blog and 13 blog posts from back in 2013.

You can also read about more of my journeys as an outdoor adventure blogger such as Hiking the East Coast Trail in Newfoundland and Sleeping wild in an African Volcano.

My next Outdoor Adventure

When: March 2017

Destination: To be announced

This is the Solo Travel Blog and a continuation of my travels after the Africa bicycle tour. Some of these posts are about solo travel or my journey to become a travel writer. It is here you can also find some useful information in the tab for destinations. For example: I had no idea how to become a travel blogger, it just kind of happened.

Most of what I write about as a solo travel blogger relates to fear, change, anxiety and lifestyle. Therefore, you will find many posts are better suited to a lifestyle blog as opposed to travel.

For example: Why you don’t need experience to do something you love.

Backpacking Africa Tips

I get asked for advice so often that it made sense to start putting up some information on Backpacking in Africa so naturally this section deals mostly with Backpacking Africa and general travel advice for Africa.

More about my story

In late 2013 I quit my job, travelled to Cape Town and began cycling Africa. It was drastic action of course, especially considering I had no cycling experience, but I was entirely disillusioned with life and in the midst of a very depressing reality. It was a simple decision which would see me become a full-time outdoor adventure blogger.

As a result of this bicycle tour I would discover many things, not the least of which was an interest in writing about outdoor adventures. Except when I finished the Africa bicycle tour it was incredibly difficult adapting back to my old lifestyle and the routine it brought. In the end, I decided there just had to be a way of turning my passion into something I did for a living and the only way I knew to go about this, was by taking back to life on the road.

I now earn an online income as an outdoor adventure blogger and content writer. At any given time, you might find me writing travel articles at the airport in Doha, sleeping on trains in Thailand, video blogging from the wilds of Africa or exploring the medieval history of Krakow.

I genuinely believe in the importance of following a passion so you might find that this blog is not really just a solo travel blog but rather, it is a blog about lifestyle design and everything it takes to make it happen.
