Microadventures Ireland | Episode #1 | Sleeping on the Sugar Loaf
As the opening line says, I worked nine to five for most of my adult life and I know just how tough it can be, and that time or money can often leave us feeling stuck.
So while many or most people do enjoy what they do for a living, the “ball and chain” of nine to five can leave anyone frustrated, regardless of them feeling content or how much they love their particular line of work.
Leaving nine to five behind
However, I’m not here to sympathize with individual circumstances but rather to suggest that allowing nine to five to consume our lifestyle is probably not the best way to approach the time we have available every day. After all, when five o’clock comes, we still have 15 hours until we need to be back at the desk, behind the wheel, at reception or…..well, you get the idea.
Microadventures – Quick escapes for busy people
Inspired by a UK based outdoor adventurer named Alastair Humphreys, Microadventures is a concept which flips the traditional way in which we manage our time and goes one step further to then turn it upside down. For example, rather than allow ourselves the option of believing that we have no time or money for an exciting midweek journey, microadventures encourages one to look closer to home and think outside the box. In this sense, Microadventures do not require a huge amount of time, effort yes, but time, not really.
Microadventures are local, they require no means of private transport and offer the same rewards of a vacation style trip. In fact, most microadventures do not cost anything which entirely removes any will to stay on the sofa, for the fact that one “has no money”.
Anyway, my reasoning here is not to make anyone feel guilty. Instead, I want to use this YouTube series of Microadventures Ireland to encourage people of all ages to get outdoors, to forget about the stress and the worry at home or at work, and to take a Microadventure somewhere close to home.
Microadventures Ireland Episode #1 follows me as I take the DART out of town and attempt to go wild camping on the Sugar Loaf in Wicklow. “Sleeping on the Sugar Loaf’” now live over on YouTube and you can view below.
