Why long term travel makes it difficult to come home

By  |

Have you ever travelled around the world and then struggled when coming to terms with being back home again?

Let me explain super quick exactly why I have never been able to return to a conventional lifestyle since travelling the world.

I am in Nairobi at this moment amd life is anything but comfortable.Animated and stimulating, it can almost feel like a video game some days. For them, this is just another normal day in Nairobi but for me, as I walk through these busy streets with a backpack and the appearance of a tortoise, it’s not hard to notice I’m the odd one out.

At the same time, it really is a case of “each to their own” because in the same way that this normality makes people happy, the uncertainty of my own road makes me feel alive.

I suspect that many people will find this hard to understand but this is why everything seems to fall into place when I travel and why everything starts to feel disjointed when I stay at home for too long.

Moral of the story: I still choosing a life of adventure over a world of normality.

I'm an Outdoor Adventure Blogger from Dublin, Ireland. In late 2013 I began riding a bicycle across Africa and it was during this adventure when I discovered a passion for the great outdoors and the general uncertainty of life on the road. Next April, I am hiking the Pacific Crest Trail.
