My Top 5 Africa Overland Tours (15 Days of Less)

Looking for Africa overland tours for less than two weeks? When friends and family ask me what part of Africa to visit, I tell them “every part”. There is always something different and equally interesting around the corner. However, if you only have a certain amount of time available, it’s important to think about what you might see or miss on a particular tour. Here’s my top Africa overland tours for less than 15 days.

1. Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater and Zanzibar – 10 Days

Tanzania is the perfect destination for first time travellers to Africa. Aside from wildlife encounters in Serengeti National Park, this tour also takes in the beautiful beaches of Zanzibar with a nice overnight stop in Usumbara mountains. While every Africa overland tour will involve a reasonable amount of travel, the time spent driving is limited on this one and you get to see quite a bit of Tanzania in just a short space of time.

By the way, have you already arranged personal travel insurance for your trip? Tours operators insist you have this to join a tour and I always use World Nomads. It also takes just a few seconds to get a quote on the link below…

2. Masai Mara, Serengeti & Ngorongoro Crater (10 Days)

If you’d like to encounter more wildlife, this overland tour takes in both the Masai Mara and Serengeti National Parks. You will also visit Ngorongoro Crater, magnificent Lake Manyara, and enjoy campouts under the broad midnight skies over 10 adventure-filled days. Aside from tracking the “big five.” +, you will also encounter many locals and tribes along the way.

3. Kenya & Uganda Adventure(15 Days)

This overland tour is packed full of adventure and takes you through Kenya and Uganda. The journey begins with travelling into the Masai Mara in search of wildlife. You will visit Lake Nakuru National Park before journeying into the highlands of Kenya. At Jinja, there is the opportunity to go kayak or whitewater-rafting on the River Nile. There is also a chance to go chimpanzee trekking in the forest and visit the stunning Lake Bunyoni ‘The Switzerland of Africa’.

4. Cape Town to Etosha National Park (10 Days)

Starting out in the beautiful city of Cape Town, this overland tour travels up along the Western Cape and then straight into the Namib Desert. You will visit the largest canyon in Africa (Fish River) and then climb some of the highest dunes in the world. The desert vistas induce wanderlust and the old town of Swakopmund is a welcome stop in between. Another highlight is the trip into Etosha National Park for game drives and the tour comes to an end in the city of Windhoek.

5. Victoria Falls & Botswana (8 Days)

You will fly into Vic Falls and try to arrive a couple of days early to enjoy what the area has to offer. On the tour, you will travel to Chobe National Park for a wildlife safari and also visit the largest inland delta in the world on a canoe. This overland trip travels across some of the most remote, driest landscapes on the continent. If you have already experiences the other four options on my list, this is an interesting, short option for an overland tour in Southern Africa.
