Africa Overland Tours
My Top 5 Africa Overland Tours for Less than 14 Days
Looking for Africa overland tours for less than two weeks?
When friends and family ask me what part of Africa to visit, I tell them “every part”. It’s true, there is always something different and equally interesting around the corner.
However, not all Africa overland tours are created equal and some offer much greater experiences than others. And the same point was outlined in my post about the best travel insurance for Africa.
So what are the best ?
Well, if you only have a short amount of time to spare, it’s important to think about what you might see or miss on a particular tour. For this reason, I will now outline my top five Africa overland tours for less than 10 days.
Top 5 Africa Overland Tours for Less than 14 Days
Kenya is possibly my favourite country to travel in Africa. You will find warm faces and culture in abundance but also beautiful scenery at every turn. On this overland tour, you also travel through the Great Rift Valley and visit Lake Naivasha and Lake Nakura which are both worthwhile. Needless to say, the highlight is an overnight stay in the Masai Mara.
Tanzania is the perfect destination for first time travellers to Africa. Aside from wildlife encounters in Serengeti National Park, this tour also takes in the beautiful beaches of Zanzibar with a nice overnight stop in Usumbara mountains. While every Africa overland tour will involve a reasonable amount of travel, the time spent driving is limited on this one and you get to see quite a bit of Tanzania in just a short space of time.
Any tour that finishes at Victoria Falls is worth the effort. However, a trip through the wilds of Botswana is just as memorable. In fact, you even travel into the Okavango Delta to overnight in the wild and venture out on safari in the lush and wonderful Chobe National Park soon after.
If your intention is to get up close to wildlife, this is the right overland tour for you. East Africa Highlights takes you right into the heart of both the Masai Mara and Serengeti National Park. Aside from visiting the largest lake in Africa along the way, you will have multiple game drives amidst iconic scenery. What’s more, Ngorongoro Crater is also included on this overland tour which is (in my opinion) the most spectacular safari destination on the planet!
This is the one for me. You get to spend plenty of time in wildlife territory in both the Masai Mara and Serengeti National Park. However, you also get to save time by taking a short flight from Arusha to the white powdered sands of Zanzibar. You can sometimes see Kilimanjaro on this flight and to be honest, there’s not much to see when you travel this section over land.
As always, if you have more time, I will recommend a longer overland tour. But with just 14 days to spare, this is my recommendation for the best Africa overland tour.
